In a hockey match Monday in Abu Dhabi, Belarus president Alyaksandr Lukashenka’s team reigned victorious over its United Arab Emirates opponents.

Belarus official media report that the match, held during Lukashenka’s ongoing «working visit» to the UAE, ended with a score of 13 to 7. Lukashenka scored three goals while his 10-year-old son Nikolay (Kolya), also on the Belarus team, scored twice.

As can be seen in officially released video of the match, Lukashenka senior and junior each sported the number «1» on their sweatshirts.

According to Belarusian state television, the UAE hockey players have asked for a rematch on October 30.

In an interview with RFE/RL’s Belarus Service, educational expert Yahor Surski opined that Kolya Lukashenka has been living in an «illusory world» created for him by his father.

«To some degree this reality can indeed be compared with that of a little prince. It is a reality that is inappropriate not only for a majority of kids in our country but for kids in general,» said Surski.

Kolya is President Lukashenka’s extramarital son. Although the identity of the 10-year old boy’s mother has never been officially disclosed, it is widely believed that she is Lukashenka’s former personal physician Iryna Abelskaya.

Some in Belarus believe Kolya is being groomed to become his father’s successor as leader of Belarus.
