Exiled opposition politician Ales Mikhalevich, who was detained by border guards upon entering the Belarusian territory on September 9, is now free to move within the borders of Belarus.

The politician’s wife, Milana Mikhalevich, wrote on Facebook that her husband was released under pledge not to leave the country without official permission.

Mikhalevich, a presidential candidate in the 2010 elections, told Radio Liberty that he decided to return to Belarus after more than four years in exile. In 2011, after he was released from a KGB prison in Minsk and secretly left Belarus, he was granted political asylum in the Czech Republic.
