One or more supersonic TU-160 strategic bombers are en route to Belarus, reports the Ukrainian website Ekonomicheskiye Izvestiya, ostensibly to make an appearance at the country's Independence Day parade).

According to the website, it is unclear how long they might remain in Belarus after the 03 July event.

The website adds no details as to the number of aircraft dislocated to Belarus or their possible place of deployment on one of Belarus's military airfields should they remain beyond 03 July.
Russia reinforced its air defenses in Belarus three months ago, in response to NATO's military buildup in the Baltics and in Poland. Those six fighter and three transport planes remain on Belarus territory.


The Belarusian state news agency Belta earlier quoted the Defense Ministry as saying that Russian-made Iskander and Triumph missiles as well as some "Tiger" armored defense vehicles have already arrived in Belarus for the Independence Day festivities.

According to Wikipedia, the Russian air force currently has sixteen of Tupelov-designed variable-sweep wing bombers which are often referred to it the west as "Blackjacks".
